I would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land I work and live across, the Gadigal and Darug people of the Eora nation. I pay my respects to their elders past/present and recognise their ongoing fight for sovereignty. Always was, always will be, Aboriginal Land.
Fumbling Towards Nourishment, is a collection of digital ephemera (videos, texts, images and audio) exploring ideas of make-shift learning, improvisation, and affect in art-making.
Whilst assembling this collection, I’ve been thinking about the ways people move through emotions and ideas. I’m particularly fond of those who fumble. As a practice, fumbling could be understood as moving in a clumsy but wilful way. It’s an intuitive and awkward process of enquiry, built around a desire for new modes of being. The “resources” linked below echo this type of thinking in a range of ways. They vary from practical and light topics (Find: Fumbling Towards Nourishment Playlist) to more theoretical ones (Find: Paranoid and Reparative Reading by Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick). The visuals for this blog and the phone background artwork I've created (linked below) are digital collages inspired by the image of a bucket overflowing with water - a metaphor designed by Shona Erskines to illustrate how stress builds in the body and impacts one's creative capacity. I hope by meandering through the links you might fumble across something that ignites your curiosity and helps you think about art-making more spaciously.
Thank you to Parramatta Artist Studios for your ongoing support, Shona Erskine for contributing the Stress-Vulnerability Card Set, and all the folks who contributed thoughts and feedback on this project.
